Memphis caramel company hopes sweet story will last

Jerrod Smith has made his caramel recipe countless times since 2012, when he formed Shotwell Candy Co. But, in more recent years, the business struggled after Smith took a step back to focus on other endeavors. 

“I’m doing everything I can to not lose my business,” he said. “It’s not just for losing the business and the financial impact that would be; there are people who love it. They’re used to giving it to family members for Christmas or holidays.”
