When Margaret Tong and her family were approached about opening a restaurant in Crosstown Concourse, they saw more than just a business opportunity. They saw it as a chance to redefine how Memphis experiences Vietnamese cuisine.

“We didn’t want to bring just another typical spot,” Tong said. “Our goal is to honor our culture while showcasing it in a way that feels modern and exciting.”

Set to open Wednesday, Jan. 29, Bao Toan is a family-driven collaboration between Tong; her mother, Karina Pham; and her sister, Chloe Tong.

$10 Deal: Banh mi at Mochi & Mi

The name Bao Toan translates to “come together,” capturing the family’s vision of creating a place for shared meals and celebrations, and the restaurant combines authentic Vietnamese recipes with contemporary techniques and an elevated dining experience.
