Bible education program expanding into Germantown and Collierville public schools

By , Daily Memphian Updated: December 26, 2025 10:50 AM CT | Published: December 26, 2025 4:00 AM CT

Next month, students in Germantown and Collierville’s public schools will have the opportunity for Bible education during school hours away from campus.

LifeWise Academy, which already operates in Memphis-Shelby County Schools, is expanding into Germantown Municipal School District and Collierville Schools. A 1952 United States Supreme Court ruling makes the option possible. The 73-year-old decision allows religious instruction during school hours if it’s off campus, privately funded and parent-approved. LifeWise is free to families, but parents must opt for their child to participate one day per week.
