Commissioner Connie McCarter has pulled a petition to run for mayor in November, potentially providing opposition for incumbent Mayor Josh Roman in the suburb’s general election.
McCarter, whose father is the late former mayor Jim Bomprezzi, pulled her peition last week to seek the city’s top elected spot, one of several candidates who appear poised to run for office. One commissioner candidate dropped out and two stepped in to take her place. All those moves are an indication that the Lakeland ballot is taking shape as the qualifying deadline approaches next Thursday, Aug. 20.
In addition to the mayor’s race, there are two commissioner positions on the Lakeland ballot, with the top two overall vote-getters winning those positions.
