The Early Word: You could have a Crosstown office; Zeanah has a new job

Happy Pride Month, Memphis! It’s Monday, June 2, and the Shelby County Commission will consider $1.6 million in repairs for 201 Poplar and Jail East. They’ll also consider a response to FBI Director Kash Patel’s claims that Memphis is “homicide capital” of the nation.

If you’ve ever dreamed about having an office in Crosstown Concourse, now is your chance. The building, which offers so many amenities that you never have to leave, has had 98% office occupancy since it opened. But some leases have ended or will very soon, and 31,700 square feet of office space will be up for grabs in the coming months. The Daily Memphian’s Dima Amro talks to a few Concourse tenants, including new tenant Monogram Foods, about what makes working in Crosstown so great. 

John Zeanah, the city’s longtime Division of Planning and Development director, has been appointed for a new role heading up the city’s development and infrastructure. Zeanah, who is probably best-known for his work on the controversial Memphis 3.0 land-use plan, will now report directly to Memphis Mayor Paul Young. If there’s a company looking to move to Memphis, he would help coordinate permitting, sewer access and housing for its workforce, among other assists. In other news of big government moves, Shelby County Health Department Director Dr. Michelle Taylor is leaving for a new job in another city

Plus, a man’s body was recovered from the Wolf, the West Tennessee forensic center’s future is uncertain and Jerrod Smith is not throwing away his shot.
