Bartlett mourns death of former Alderman Bobby Simmons
Former Bartlett Alderman Bobby Simmons, who served the suburb almost 20 years, died Wednesday morning following a battle with dementia in recent years.
Simmons, who worked as a Shelby County Sheriff’s Office deputy for 35 years, was first elected as Bartlett alderman in 2004. He ran unopposed in 2020 to win his fifth four-year term but was forced to resign from his Position 4 seat in June 2023 due to declining health. Monique Williams was appointed to serve the remainder of the term, which expires this year.
“He was a longtime personal friend, and I enjoyed our time together, including serving with him on the board for 18 years,” Bartlett Mayor David Parsons said. “He’s going to be missed.”
