The popularity of trading card gaming has exploded in the past year, with Magic: The Gathering, Pokemon, Disney’s Lorcana, Star Wars Unlimited, One Piece and others luring in new players and collectors.
More than 12 billion Pokemon cards were sold in 2023-24, according to pokeguardian.com, with The Pokemon Company raking in nearly $11 billion.
“Pokemon’s the hottest thing on the planet right now,” said Dan Dziuba, co-owner of The Greater Memphis Magic Arena at 7505 U.S. 64 in Memphis just across the Memphis-Bartlett city line.
