Collierville favors Mount Trashmore rezoning — just don’t slide down it

By , Daily Memphian Updated: January 08, 2025 6:45 PM CT | Published: January 08, 2025 4:45 PM CT

Rezoning the former E-Plex landfill in Collierville was unanimously endorsed by the suburb’s Planning Commission on Tuesday evening despite opposition from the property owner.

The site, zoned R-1, would allow several homes. However, town officials want a change to Forest Agricultural Residential, allowing fewer homes on 5-acre lots. There are constraints to development of the property due to the former landfill use. While the northern portion and the former landfill have little development potential, homes are possible on the site’s southern side.

“If we continue it as R-1, it is going to be misleading to a potential buyer, and I think changing it is appropriate to remedying that,” Commissioner Heather Fletcher said.
