Fair on the Square returns to Collierville and ‘just screams small town’
Thousands visit Collierville each year for the town's Fair on the Square. This weekend marks the 50th year of the event. (Courtesy Town of Collierville)
Fair on the Square in Collierville was originally a one-year event, but that was 50 years ago, and organizers expect the tradition to continue.
Kay Stamps was instrumental in its beginnings. Stamps wanted clubs and organizations to make a little extra money. She pitched it to her husband, Taylor, who supported her concept. It coincided with the town’s plans to celebrate the United States bicentennial. She took the idea to the Collierville Twentieth Century Club, a women’s civic group, of which she was a part.
