Germantown’s 911 call center was promised in 2020. Now it’s on permanent hold.

A new Germantown dispatch center, in the works for nearly six years, is on a permanent hold due to a funding issue with Shelby County.

The county 911 Board told Germantown in 2020 it would fund what’s called the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP). The PSAP’s staff of 24 employees answers 911 calls and handles dispatch for police, fire and emergency medical services.

Although Germantown officials thought the necessary funds were earmarked for their center, Shelby County prioritized other projects, eliminating the money for Germantown.
