Wesley Wright’s final meeting on the Lakeland Board of Commissioners was Thursday, Nov. 7, with the board unanimously passing a resolution authorizing Mayor Josh Roman to sign a proclamation honoring Wright’s dedication over the past seven-plus years.
Wright was first elected commissioner in 2017, winning a special election by just eight votes after the resignation of Michele Dial. He then won reelection for his first full four-year term in 2020.
In June, he decided not to run for reelection this year, meaning he still has one term remaining that he can serve as either commissioner or mayor under the suburb’s two-term limit. Wright’s first 3 1/2-year term did not count towards the limit since it was not a full four-year term.
The mayor and commissioners thanked Wright for his time in the role, with Commissioner Jim Atkinson dubbing Wright “Mr. Lakeland.”
