First-ever public fireworks show to light up Lakeland’s sky

Just two years away from its 50th anniversary as a city, Lakeland will celebrate its independence over the Fourth of July weekend with its first official fireworks show.
The city’s Freedom Festival planned for Saturday, July 5, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., will be held at the Lakeland Preparatory School Annex Complex at 9651 Old Brownsville Road.
“We wanted to make a big deal about it being the first year, so we got a band (Landslide) and bounce houses. But I want to make sure people know it’s going to be a really nice fireworks show,” Lakeland Mayor Josh Roman said.
