Will Lakeland finally get another grocery store? And who will it be?

The first tiny hints of what could be a new grocer coming to Lakeland were revealed last week at a Board of Commissioners meeting.

During a Thursday, Nov. 6 meeting, the BOC approved an amended outline plan for developer Vince Smith’s Ashmont mixed-use project just north of the Interstate 40 and Canada Road interchange.

The amendment dealt with a parcel at the corner of Davies Plantation Road and Canada where Smith has a potential buyer that wants to put a fueling station that would be an ancillary use of a grocery store.
