Coronavirus: All January vaccine appointments are filled

The Shelby County Health Department announced in a news release Saturday that all COVID-19 vaccine appointment slots are filled for January.
“The Shelby County Health Department will continue to provide daily updates and will announce when more appointments are available,” the update concludes.
The Shelby County Health Department reported 552 new coronavirus cases and 13 additional virus-related deaths Saturday, Jan. 9.
The 552 coronavirus cases reported Saturday came from 4,752 test results, yielding a 11.6% positivity rate. Test results, however, are not reflective of the previous 24-hour period and include tests over multiple days.
Since March, the Health Department has reported 73,178 total coronavirus cases and 1,016 deaths, classifying 65,071 cases as inactive/recovered.
Active cases in Shelby County stand at 7,091, an increase from the 6,977 reported Friday. A total of 863,237 coronavirus tests have been performed in Shelby County, yielding a 10% positivity rate.
The Shelby County Health Department will resume COVID-19 vaccinations next week, by appointment only, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday at the Pipkin Building, 940 Early Maxwell Blvd. at the Fairgrounds.
There were 614 COVID-19 patients in Memphis area hospitals as of 5 p.m. Thursday, the latest data available, according to Tennessee’s Healthcare Resource Tracking System. The Health Department will provide weekend hospital data in its Monday update.
Hospital capacity for ICU beds is at 95% use, and acute care beds are at 93% occupancy. The number of area ICU beds available is 22 with 175 acute care beds open. Bed capacity is calculated by subtracting beds occupied by patients, unstaffed beds and beds that are otherwise unavailable.
Of the 614 people hospitalized, are 154 in intensive care unit beds, with 460 in acute care beds.
Those who are COVID-positive or suspected of having the virus represent 42% of ICU patients and 24% of acute care patients.
