Shelby County COVID-19 positivity rate is 14.8%

Shelby County Health Department reported 639 new cases of COVID-19 Sunday, Jan. 10.
The total number of cases in Shelby County since early March is 73,817.
The new cases come from a 4,329 reported tests bringing the daily positivity rate to nearly 14.8%.
The Health Department also reported eight new deaths, and 1,024 COVID-19 positive individuals have died in the county.
The Health Departments updates metro-area hospital data on weekdays. The most recent data is from Thursday at 5 p.m.
There were 614 hospitalized COVID-19 patients and 154 were in intensive care. The Health Department reported 95% of staffed ICU beds were occupied and 22 were available.
About 24,700 people have received a COVID-19 vaccine shot in Shelby County, according to the Health Department, which accounts for about 2.6% of the population. The Health Department will resume vaccinations by appointment beginning Tuesday, but all appointments in January have been taken.

The Tennessee Department of Health reported 7,419 new cases Sunday, Jan. 10 for a total of 653,869 cases. An estimated 565,197 of those individuals have recovered.
The state department reported 81 new deaths and 7,785 people with COVID-19 have died in Tennessee.
The state updates its vaccination data on Tuesdays and Fridays. As of Friday, 215,427 vaccinations had been administered, and 4,561 individuals had received both doses.
