Memphis coffee breakdown: Favorite coffee shops, espresso martinis

It’s a good time to be a coffee lover in Memphis. With more locally owned shops hitting their stride, perfecting their roasts and spinning off into coffee sodas and frozen coffee cocktails, folks can get their coffee fix in different formats and locations all across the Mid-South.

Check out The Daily Memphian’s extensive coffee shop guide, which takes you from Muggin Coffeehouse in Whitehaven to Downtown cafes and classic Midtown spots to Jojo’s Espresso in Germantown.

With only 30 minutes, this coffee-themed episode of Sound Bites does focus mostly on newer Memphis coffee shops in the loop.

In the podcast, I join The Daily Memphian CEO Eric Barnes and video and podcast producer Natalie Van Gundy for a lively discussion on our favorite cafes, where we’d take visiting java snobs and how we each make our coffee at home. Spoiler alert: The approaches vary wildly!

Barnes and Van Gundy wax poetic about their favorite canned offering from that one giant coffee brand, and we briefly wade into the espresso martini craze. I also share my thoughts on a story I wrote for Edible Memphis about the cost of a latte and how Mid-South coffee shop owners are making the choice for ethical business practices.
