Sound Bites: Thanksgiving food hot takes

Thanksgiving can be a controversial holiday. And no, I’m not talking about its questionable origin story, though we do briefly touch on this in the podcast. I’m talking about all the Thanksgiving menu hot takes that inevitably pop up this time of year.

In this episode of Sound Bites, Chris Herrington and I break down the epic battles that happen on the Thanksgiving table. Is turkey actually good? Which preparation method is the best for the big bird? Do we like dressing or stuffing? (Does anyone actually stuff the turkey with stuffing anymore?)

Do we prefer candied yams or sweet potato casserole? Which is better, the nostalgia of the can-shaped cranberry sauce log or a fresh cranberry compote?

These are the heavy questions that Herrington and I endeavor to answer this week. We agree on some and disagree on others — and podcast producer Natalie Van Gundy jumps in with some pros and cons herself.

Also in this episode, I pitch a Thanksgiving rebrand and Herrington also shares the saddest mashed potato-related story I’ve ever heard, though it does have a happy ending.

What are your Thanksgiving table must-haves? Where do you land on the sweet potato dish continuum? Sound off on this edition of Sound Bites in the comments.
