Once again this season, The Daily Memphian is honoring a high school girls basketball player of the week. But we need your help.
Each Monday, we’ll post several candidates from the previous week’s games and ask you — our readers — to vote on who you think is the most deserving. Voting ends at 5 p.m. each Thursday.
Here are the candidates for Week 4:
Bella Rose Austin, Harding: Austin had a fine all-around game on Jan. 9 to lead the Lions to a victory over St. Agnes. She scored 20 points on 6 of 12 shooting from the floor while adding five rebounds and three assists as Harding came out on top, 53-41.
Amare’ Boothe, White Station: Boothe led the city in scoring as a sophomore while playing for Hamilton last season. Now, she’s making the transition to Class 4A hoops look easy. Boothe scored 24 points on Jan. 7 to lead the Spartans to a 53-50 victory over Trezevant.
Haylie Burton, St. Benedict: The Eagles’ 5-4 sophomore guard scored 15 of her 18 points in the second half on Jan. 7, sparking her team to a 58-45 road victory over Bolton.
Zaria Moss, Arlington: Moss, a sophomore, had one of the best games of her young career against district rival Southwind on Jan. 7. She scored 23 points and pulled down seven boards as the Tigers came out on the right end of a 56-33 result.
Natalie Regel, ECS: Last season, Regel was a part of an Eagles team that won just one game all season. This year, she’s the leading scorer on a team that’s made a remarkable turnaround. The senior finished with 18 points on Jan. 7 as ECS improved to 13-1 with a 45-17 victory over Power Center Academy.
