Just 1 Shelby County suburb has a full-time mayor. Germantown could soon make that 2.

Germantown voters will decide whether they want their mayor to serve on a full-time basis during the county primaries next May, a change that would make the suburb unique among the six outlying cities in Shelby County. 

None of the city charters for the other suburbs — Arlington, Bartlett, Collierville, Lakeland and Millington — specify the top elected office as a full-time position.

Both Memphis Mayor Paul Young and Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris serve in full-time positions.
