‘Not a slam dunk’: Germantown faces high-stakes decision for Carrefour redevelopment

Germantown’s Industrial Development Board will meet Monday to hear the projected economic impact of The Standard Germantown, part of the consideration as the suburb reviews tax increment financing (TIF) for the former Carrefour site.

During the Monday meeting, the IDB will also decide when it plans to vote on the TIF, likely after a Jan. 20 public hearing.

A public hearing regarding the TIF is scheduled for Jan. 20 at 6 p.m. at City Hall. During that time, a presentation will be made by developers, and residents can offer feedback.

Germantown has never granted a TIF, but CRE Devco Germantown, the group planning The Standard, a mixed-use development at Poplar Avenue and Kirby Parkway, asked the city for a TIF more than a year ago. The group includes Billy Orgel and Adam Slovis, two respected developers in the community.
