Suburban school districts’ first kindergartners prepare for their senior year

Many high school seniors in Shelby County’s suburban school districts will start classes this week destined to become the first students to complete their K-12 education in the municipal schools.
As the suburban districts embark on their 13th year, there are some students whose first day of kindergarten was in August of 2014 — aligning with the opening of suburban districts after they created their own systems seeking more local control.
The journey since the celebration of the new systems and the euphoria of controlling their education has transitioned into some of the realities that the outlying systems were told would occur. The state-of-the-art campuses and athletic facilities along with satisfactory scores on state testing have highlighted the change.
