    Collierville leaders could soon take action impacting the future of a Confederate relic in Town Square Park. Town staff is preparing a proposal for the board to consider later this year.

  • Forrest slave market historic marker damaged, to be repaired

    It is the second historical marker to be snapped in two from its base in the past month. The rector of Calvary Episcopal Church says the marker, noting the location of Nathan Bedford Forrest's slave market, will be repaired and reinstalled as soon as possible.

    If you want to really know your country, Memphis is a good place to start. Artists such as Howlin’ Wolf and Elvis Presley brought American culture together and sent it around the world from a studio only steps from where a slave trader was celebrated in a city park. Martin Luther King Jr. marched for economic justice, climbed to the mountaintop, and was taken by an assassin’s bullet, all within a triangle separated by a couple of miles.
