Generational blend: Son opens cafe inside father’s restaurant

Abdul Mustapha thought his dream of owning a coffee shop was a decade away, but with help from his parents, the dream came true much sooner.
Humble Drip Coffee opened earlier this summer inside Mustapha’s father’s Downtown restaurant, Sam’s Main Street Eatery at 7 N. Main St.
Set in the restaurant’s corner, Humble Drip serves drip coffee, lattes, Americanos, cold brews and chai matcha to Main Street customers.
The shop also offers pastries and cakes made by Mustapha’s mother and sells tea bags from Orange Mound-based My Cup of Tea.
The young coffee entrepreneur said his love for coffee grew about a year after he joined Starbucks in early 2020. At the time, he wasn’t a coffee drinker.
“I didn’t join Starbucks because I liked coffee,” he said. “I would drink it out of convenience to get caffeine, but I didn’t actually thoroughly enjoy coffee.”
After being exposed to the cafe environment and regular customers, Mustapha wanted to continue being around the “positivity” a coffee shop cultivated.
So, he started at the heart of a coffee shop — coffee.
