The company chose Memphis for its first U.S. facility.

A FedEx Express courier with 36 years of service delivered the trophy via a FedEx Express delivery van. 

FedEx confirmed during the company’s December 2022 earnings release that it will try to cut costs by more than $3 billion throughout the fiscal year. 

General Motors’ Memphis Parts Distribution Center, which was opened in 1999, ships 331,700 orders per month and employs 259 people.

In an email with The Daily Memphian on Friday, Feb. 3, a representative of FedEx confirmed the company is enacting these furloughs in addition to the ones announced in November 2022.

The 10 small businesses chosen by FedEx will win $30,000 and $1,000 in FedEx Office print credit. 

“As a logistics company, you have to have a footprint in Memphis.”

Megabus is broadening its service options, linking Memphis to the Midwest. 

In addition to Memphis, meals will be packaged in eight other U.S. cities including Atlanta, Houston and Los Angeles.

The FedEx founder financed the film, about the first Black aviator to complete the U.S. Navy’s basic flight training program, and is donating the movie’s proceeds to the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation. 

Before cuts beginning last August, FedEx made Sunday deliveries to more than 80% of the U.S. population; the changes bring that number down to more than 50%. 

FedEx Express, FedEx Ground and FedEx Home Delivery shipping rates are now at the highest ever.

Memphis-based public companies FedEx, International Paper, Sylvamo and AutoZone have cautious outlooks for 2023.

Forty percent of all freight in the United States moves by rail. Cutting off the supply, experts say, would cripple the economy and decimate the still-rebounding supply chain.
