Edible Memphis editor Stacey Greenberg returns to “Sound Bites” this week to talk about her recent culinary travels abroad and getting to meet the onion ring specialist at Huey’s.

We also attempt to start a list of classic (Dare we say old-school?) Memphis restaurants.

First though, Greenberg guides listeners through her recent trip to Mexico City. From Michelin star restaurants to street food to the “fruit man,” she shared delicious specifics and insights.

After a few recent revelations that not everyone knows about Earnestine & Hazel’s and Alex’s Tavern, Greenberg and I got inspired to talk about other establishments that fall into this category.

She revealed the spot she and her husband go for Valentine’s Day (no gatekeeping here) and another place she calls the “Berclair Country Club.” Barbecue pizza came up as well as a plea to bring back breakfast at a Midtown staple — not Barksdale’s, another one.

I retired the phrase “hidden gem” in a past life, but some of these might fit the description. Others simply have the longevity and nostalgia and enough good stories worth telling.

We know the list is just getting started. So leave a comment or send an email, and I may mention you and your contribution on an upcoming episode.
