The governor and the legislature’s GOP leaders are seeking even more funding for the program’s first year than the legislative analysis identifies.

With the discussion of school vouchers beginning this week, suburban leaders said they are watching the events in Nashville and hoping the special session doesn’t mean approval of the controversial approach.

Interim Superintendent Roderick Richmond, a career education administrator in Memphis, said he has interest in the permanent role. 

Under a new agreement, Southwest Community College students will have a streamlined pathway to earn a bachelor’s degree at LeMoyne-Owen College. 

Hundreds of high school jazz bands audition from all over the world to be invited to the Essentially Ellington contest in May. Only 30 bands make it — and guess where one of them is from. 

Students who complete the 2-credit course will earn DU ecology conservation certification. 

At last year’s event, Kyle Rittenhouse abruptly left the stage early, and protesters later chased his supporters across campus. 

The Daily Memphian analyzed the report that found Feagins violated an ethics clause in her contract eight times. Attorneys investigated a fourth, procurement-related claim, but could not substantiate it.

Feagins has denied wrongdoing, and issued a lengthy rebuttal to the board’s claims during a meeting on Jan. 14.

“We’ve got several pathways,” Tennessee Rep. Mark White, R-Memphis, told The Daily Memphian. 

MSCS board members voted on Tuesday, Jan. 21, to name Roderick Richmond as interim superintendent moments after terminating former district head Marie Feagins.

As the Memphis-Shelby County Schools board members gathered to vote on Marie Feagins’ future as the district’s superintendent, members of the public turned out to support her.

The funding aims to bolster interest in the humanities and provide an income for students who cannot afford to work unpaid internships. 

It’s unclear whether the board will stray from its 5-4 division.

With an ouster vote looming, Marie Feagins’ tenure in the Memphis-Shelby County Schools superintendent position could be just as long as her pursuit of it.

The special-called meeting is set to include a report from unnamed “outside counsel” and, “if necessary,” a vote to select an interim superintendent for Memphis-Shelby County Schools.
