On the evening of Jan. 24, 1985, an unidentified woman was found on the side of Highway 78 in Olive Branch, the apparent victim of a strangulation.

After federal court clerks told The Daily Memphian it needed to file a formal motion for the footage, the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press did so, requesting the video on behalf of the local news site in January. 

Adrian Goodrich, also known as ‘Coach Skeet,’ is one of the people killed in January and February, according to data provided by Memphis Police Department. In the same period last year, there were 54 slayings. 

New images of Shelby County Jail cells show “inhumane” conditions, according to national civil rights attorney Ben Crump. He represents the family of Ramon McGhee, whose death was ruled a homicide.

The Organized Crime Unit conducted an investigation into Gas Express from October 2021 to January 2024. Over that time period, police were called to the gas station 903 times.

The case was the first DeSoto County District Attorney Matthew Barton tried since being elected in November when he ran on taking a strict approach to crime committed by Memphians in North Mississippi. 

Jessie Dotson was convicted of the six-murder scene in 2010 and currently sits on death row in Nashville.

Brittney Jackson is charged in the death of Sequoia Samuels, her 4-year-old daughter who found dead last year following a city-wide manhunt after she was allegedly reported missing.

Bills advancing through the Tennessee General Assembly this week included one aimed at reversing police reforms passed in the wake of Tyre Nichols’ 2023 death in Memphis. 

Fifteen people were indicted for allegedly organizing the enterprise, and dozens more were arrested.

The MBI has not disclosed what initiated the stop. None of the DeSoto County Sheriff’s officers were seriously injured, but the K9, identified as Luca, is deceased. 

The incident occurred after DeSoto County Sheriff’s deputies attempted to make a stop along the border of Tunica and DeSoto counties.
