Memphis Mayor Paul Young convened a discussion with local gang members with the help of 901 Bloc Squad and Heal 901, two of the city’s violence intervention programs.

“She’s literally just in a hospital gown, with nothing else on. She can’t walk,” an Uber driver said of a passenger picked up. “And I’m thinking, it’s getting dark. It’s about to rain. This is a perfect storm for something terrible to happen to a person.”

Bills advancing through the Tennessee General Assembly this week included one aimed at reversing police reforms passed in the wake of Tyre Nichols’ 2023 death in Memphis. 

Fifteen people were indicted for allegedly organizing the enterprise, and dozens more were arrested.

The MBI has not disclosed what initiated the stop. None of the DeSoto County Sheriff’s officers were seriously injured, but the K9, identified as Luca, is deceased.
