After nine years at Overton Square, Belly Acres has closed the Midtown location.

In a released statement, owner Lee Scifres said he is “deeply saddened.”

“We truly appreciate the friends we’ve made over the years, all the loyal patrons, our neighbor businesses that we have grown to love and the management and staff of the Square,” Scifres said in the statement.

In a social media post, Belly Acres said the reason for closing was safety concerns, staffing and declining business.

Scifres would not comment other than the released the statement.

The statement encouraged customers to go to the Regalia location in East Memphis or the “soon-to-be” Silo Square location in Southaven.

“We remain hopeful that we will be able to continue to serve the wonderful Midtown community in the near future,” Scifres said in the statement. “We are tremendously grateful for our time at Overton Square, serving such a wonderful community and historic part of the city. We love you, Midtown!”
