NCAA men’s basketball box score for Thursday’s game between the Memphis Tigers and the Wichita State Shockers played at FedExForum in Memphis.

The voters spoke loudly making the top boys basketball as a runaway winner with 62% of the vote.

Last season the Grizzlies set a new franchise record for consecutive wins with 11. After the win on Wednesday over Cleveland, the Grizzlies have tied that record, and will attempt to break it by beating the Lakers on Friday night in Los Angeles.

Doing the little things — while excelling on the defensive end — has the Phoenix on a nine-game winning streak.

The Grizzlies tied the longest winning streak in franchise history by making the plays in the final seconds to edge the Cavaliers 115-114.

While a victory against the Shockers won’t bolster the Tigers’ NCAA Tournament resume, a loss would give the group a blemish that would be hard to overlook come Selection Sunday.

“Akeem is a very experienced USL defender that we are sure can come in on both ends of the pitch,” head coach Stephen Glass said in a statement. 

While Memphis lost some guys to the portal and graduation, the Tigers have brought in several transfers that include 11 former Power Five athletes.

Northpoint Christian’s Christian Gilliland leads area boys in scoring at 28.9 points per game, while Aaliyah Converse of St. George’s tops the girls with a 34.1 avg.

The Houston High alumna set the U of M’s career 3-point record after previously breaking the single-season record for men’s and women’s basketball as a freshman. 

Former University of Toledo receiver DeMeer Blankumsee has committed to Memphis, he announced on Instagram on Tuesday. Blankumsee caught 41 passes for 512 yards and three touchdowns as a sophomore for the Rockets this past season.

Jaguars kicker Riley Patterson represented The University of Memphis in dramatic fashion with a game winning kick against the Chargers. 

Memphis will have to try to gut out at least one or two more wins while missing Lomax, Dandridge and Hardaway, but there is a silver lining to the Tigers’ current predicament.

Last week, Grizzlies beat writer Drew Hill had the chance to spend some time in Richmond, Indiana — Bane’s hometown — and talk to some of the people he grew up closely with.

Carson Vom Steeg made 21 starts in the USL Championship last season.
