The University of Memphis and Germantown Community Library are teaming up to set the community’s youngest residents on a path to success.

“We’re interested in this property for multiple reasons,” Tower Ventures partner Benjamin Orgel said. “We even liked this location before the announcement of the Ford plant.”

The decision comes eight days after the board did not vote to implement universal masking in schools despite Superintendent Gary Lilly’s concerns about staffing issues.

The DeSoto County town was identified in 2021 as the third-safest city in Mississippi by Safewise.com, and citizens want to keep it safe.

The high school wing of Lakeland Prep will open this August, the final step in students graduating from the suburban school district in four years.

The Collierville Planning Commission endorsed an outline plan for The Parke at Houston Levee Thursday. In addition to residential space, two hotels, about 39 acres of retail and 78,500 square feet of medical professional office are planned.

The Parke at Houston Levee will go back before Collierville Planning Commission on Thursday. Developer Jason Crews has revised the plan following comments from Collierville leaders.

Keeping the ship steady in terms of how the town develops remains a top priority for Arlington Mayor Mike Wissman this year, including strengthening and refining the town’s land use plan and ordinances.

Three Collierville High classes were unsupervised Tuesday; the first day back after winter break. The district investigated, and Principal Roger Jones communicated with affected parents.

Bluff City Balloon Jamboree will return in 2022, but the event planners are moving their event westward.

“We went from zero hotels to possibly three pretty fast, and we’re getting inquiries since the Ford announcement for even more,” said Arlington’s mayor. 

They asked instead to start a club called Allies of Diversity ‘standing up for those who are most at risk of being bullied and judged negatively.'

State Rep. Mark White confirmed he’ll file another bill in the upcoming legislative session that could determine who controls Germantown Elementary, Germantown Middle School and Germantown High. The bill could also affect Lucy Elementary in Millington.

‘We are honored to have her at DeSoto Central Middle School,’ Principal Bryon Williams said of Rachel Jenne.
