Arlington looks to light popular soccer fields, reduce vandalism

With roughly 1,000 children playing organized soccer this year at Arlington’s Forrest Street Park, the town wants to add permanent sports lighting by next year.
“In the fall is when those lights are really needed for practice,” Town Administrator Cathy Durant said. “Currently, they’re using rented, portable lights.”
Arlington recently received a $500,000 Local Parks & Recreation Fund grant for the lighting project, which represents the final phase of redevelopment of the park located just east of Depot Square that began several years ago.
The grant, which the town applied for earlier this year, will cover 50% of the cost for the project, with Arlington pitching in a matching amount.
