Suburbs await new certified property-tax rates

With budget seasons approaching, local municipalities will examine property taxes while homeowners pray their bills won’t increase.
For suburban budgets for the fiscal year from July 1, 2025, until June 30, 2026, reappraisal is a factor. Local officials are awaiting certified tax rates from the Shelby County assessor. But the value of many properties is expected to rise.
“We had hoped to have them by now,” Arlington Mayor Mike Wissman said about the certified rate. “We think they’re going to be up about 20% just from what we’re hearing.”
