Germantown leaders approve retail center for Forest Hill Heights

The most underdeveloped portion of Germantown could soon see some activity with a new retail center approved by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen on Monday night, Feb. 10.

The two retail buildings will sit on the south side of Winchester Road east of Forest Hill-Irene Road. The shopping center, The Square at Forest Hill Heights, will add more than 24,000 square feet of retail space. Two L-shaped buildings will be located on vacant parcels between the existing Circle K and First Horizon Bank.

Mayor Mike Palazzolo often calls Forest Hill Heights — the southeastern portion of the city — “the bootheel of Germantown.” When the Planning Commission reviewed the proposal, members thought this project could set the standard and jumpstart development in the area.

“If you start high, you can only go higher,” Alderman Tony Salvaggio said Monday.
