Budget, balancing and timing: The top County Commission votes of 2024

Shelby County Commissioners were at the halfway point of their four-year term of office by the end of 2024.

And the second year looked a lot like the first — especially the budget season.

The answers to some of the questions about financing a trio of capital projects — the construction of two new high schools and rebuilding Regional One Health’s campus — came from some unexpected places in 2024.

Meanwhile, an effort to regulate utility-scale solar farms in northern Shelby County became a reminder that timing is just as crucial in what happens in government as where the money is coming from.
