In recent years, restaurants and bars across Memphis have begun adding a new section to their bar menus: the nonalcoholic beverage list.
“People’s perspective on consumption is changing,” said Paul Gilliam, co-owner of Cameo and Mary’s B.O.T.E.
In his 11 years behind the bar, Gilliam has witnessed the sober community grow.
“When I first started out, nonalcoholic drinks were for kids or parents of the kids,” he said, adding most of the drinks were super sweet because they were primarily made with simple syrups and juices.
Gilliam and business partner Mary Oglesby have made it a priority to have nonalcoholic options that rival the rest of their drink menus. Cameo offers seven zero-proof cocktails plus a selection of nonalcoholic beers.
