At several local institutions, cash is still king

Hunter Myers will never accept credit cards at The Pancake Shop, part of a promise he made to the family who owned the restaurant for decades. 

Myers bought the almost 70-year-old shop in 2022 and he didn’t want to change anything about the Summer Avenue restaurant — including its cash-only policy. 

As society becomes more digital and even the penny finds itself retired, some restaurants no longer accept cash at all. Others accept a variety of payments.

But there are a few establishments who are keeping it old school and sticking with cash and cash only because, they say, it’s better for them and their customers.
