14 apply for Germantown school board vacancy

Fourteen Germantown residents applied for a vacancy on the suburb’s Board of Education, including two people who ran for elected office in 2022.

Names were released earlier this week of the 14 people interested in being appointed to the Position 2 seat on Germantown Municipal School District’s board. The vacancy is due to Dr. Daniel Chatham’s decision to resign during his four-year term. The appointed board member will serve until December 2026, the remainder of Chatham’s term.

One of the individuals interested is Carrie Schween, who unsuccessfully challenged GMSD Chairwoman Angela Griffith in 2022. During that same election cycle, Manjit Kaur challenged Alderman Scott Sanders, but Sanders won reelection. Kaur also applied for the school board vacancy.

This is the third time in GMSD’s history a board member has been appointed by the city’s aldermen. Betsy Landers was appointed in 2016 after Mark Dely moved out of Germantown. Rebecca Luter was appointed in 2018 after Suzanne Jones moved out of state due to her husband’s job.
