The Aug. 20 filing deadline is a month away, but Jon McCreery, Amy Eoff and Scott Williams intend to have their names on Germantown’s Nov. 3 ballot, according to the most recent municipal election list from the Shelby County Election Commission.

McCreery announced last week he planned to pull a petition for Position 5 aldermen.

Four petitions pulled for Germantown’s municipal election

McCreery grew up in Germantown and returned after attending college elsewhere. He sees running for office as a way to repay the community.

“I just really felt that running for office is a high calling, and I wanted an opportunity to serve and give back,” he said.

Although McCreery has not served on any Germantown commissions, he served 14 years on the Memphis and Shelby County Land Use Control Board, including seven as chairman.

“That afforded me a lot of experience,” he noted.

McCreery has raised $37,000 in campaign funds and said it is testament to support he already has in the Germantown community.

Professionally, McCreery is the president and co-owner of Chamberlain & McCreery. He is best known as a homebuilder but has other business and entrepreneurial experience in the area.

He serves on the board for First Capital Bank which is based in Germantown. Additionally, he is the past president of Germantown Youth Athletic Association. 

McCreery said he chose Position 5 because it was the only seat where “new blood” was not seeking election.

Rod Motley, Brian Ueleke and Position 5 incumbent Rocky Janda also pulled petitions for the November election in June. Sherrie Hicks filed and received the needed signatures.

Amy Eoff will seek a second term for Position 5 on the Germantown Municipal School District’s Board of Education.

She confirmed she recently pulled her petition. Eoff is serving her second consecutive year as vice-chairperson. She is the only board member seeking re-election this year.

“It has been an honor to serve Germantown families over the last several years, and I am asking for the opportunity to continue to work for the benefit of all of our students,” Eoff said. “Even in the midst of our current global crisis, together we still have good works to accomplish, challenges to face and overcome, and excellence to achieve in our schools.”

Eoff was raised in Germantown, and she began her teaching career in Maryland, where she taught middle school students. She then returned to Germantown to be closer to family. 

All three of her children were enrolled in Germantown schools. Her oldest graduated from Houston High in May. Eoff has been active in the schools, serving as room parent, room parent chair and grade captain. She also served in the Parent Teacher Associations and spent time as a PTA president.

Eoff served in various volunteer capacities at local churches and attends Germantown Presbyterian Church.

Professionally, Eoff works for Pediatrix as a newborn hearing screener at several local hospitals.

Scott Williams also plans to run for school board, although he is unsure which seat he will seek. He pulled petitions for both Position 3 and Position 5.

Williams is no stranger to the suburb’s board of education. His wife, Natalie, served in Position 3 until 2016. He also was on the steering committee that assisted in the formation of the district.

Williams said the district built a strong foundation, but it’s time to “focus on moving beyond excellence.”

“I will be a positive and independent voice on the School Board to advance the mission of our school district,” Williams said. “I am stepping up to serve the families of Germantown to insure our community provides every student with exceptional educational opportunities ... and to push our school district toward continuous improvement.”

Williams has two special education students at Riverdale School. 

He served as chairman of Germantown’s Personnel Advisory Commission from 2013 until 2017. Additionally, he was on the Education Commission from 2017 until 2019.

Professionally, he was a middle and high school teacher in public schools near Atlanta before moving to Germantown. He is an adjunct professor at Christian Brothers University. He has practiced labor and employment law for two decades, including the past 10 years as lead counsel with FedEx Express.

Ryan Strain and Brian Curry also pulled petitions for seats held by Linda Fisher and Rebecca Luter, respectively. Fisher has said she will not run. When Rebecca Luter was appointed in 2018, she said she did not plan to seek election. Curry filed his petition with sufficient signatures Monday, July 20.
