Summer Avenue from Highland to Waring: Teppanyaki and tequila
Summer Avenue, installment 2, is the topic of conversation on this week’s Sound Bites. Jennifer Biggs and Chris Herrington have worked their way down the 10-mile stretch of pavement and this week they travel from Highland to Waring.
A few of the places in the stretch: Nagasaki Inn, a retro Japanese steak house that opened in 1981 but feels more like a tiki bar from the 1960s, maybe because of the tropical drinks served super cheap at the bar.

It’s where you’ll find Chris and Jennifer’s favorite Mexican restaurants, but they’re not the same one. You can buy a $250 cocktail there, if two bottles of tequila sounds like something you need (take friends with you), and there’s plenty more, including the breakfast institution Bryant’s and the beloved La Michoacana, where the kids in all of us loves a frozen treat.
Click, have a listen, and weigh in on your favorite places. Last week Sound Bites was about the section of Summer from East Parkway to Highland, and next week we’ll continue to move east down the street until we close it out the week after.
