With a new roaster that will triple its capacity, the Cxffeeblack team is preparing for a wholesale expansion into Memphis grocery stores, new cafe partners across the city and a future described as “uncontained.”
Every Monday, a group of about 25 runners and walkers meets in The Heights at 5:30 a.m., but it’s not just about physical fitness.
“Coffee brings people to the table,” Cxffeeblack founder Bartholomew Jones said.
“We’ve had people over the last three to four years reach out and want to invest,” co-owner Bartholomew Jones said. “For the most part, I’ve told those people ‘no.’ Now feels like the perfect time to do this campaign in a way that’s real Memphis from the ground up.”
The Heights area roaster is only one of two U.S. companies nominated.
Memphis coffee trailblazers Cxffeeblack are returning to the brew’s African origins and taking others with them through their new Barista Exchange Program.
Not a Coffee Shop is open Tuesdays through Thursdays from 6:45 to 11:15 a.m. and serves all of its coffee, including pour overs and espresso shots, black.
