Catfish, favorite dishes from Memphis Black Restaurant Week
You can love barbecue and we support that. Pimento cheese might be your thing and that’s OK. Banana pudding could make you swoon, but for Chris Herrington and me, it’s fried catfish that most appeals to our Southern palates.

Chris, you’ll hear on today’s Sound Bites, comes by it honestly as his grandparents were the catfish moguls of Dewitt, Arkansas (that’s Dee-witt, in case you didn’t know). I just like it, and recently had good catfish at Big Momma’s and Granny’s in Bartlett.
It was a restaurant that participated in Memphis Black Restaurant Week. I picked up lunch there a week later and business was still booming; the fried okra made it worth the wait.
Chris was part of our MBRW coverage and he tells us about the goat curry at Bala’s Bistro, a dish he liked so much that he says if we ever did — and we’re sure not saying we will — another 100 Things to Eat in Memphis list, this would be on it.
Have a listen.
