With an increase of residents expected to accompany the construction of BlueOval City, higher-density, New Urbanism could help meet the need for housing.

100 N. Main Development Partners plans to use the 15th through 22nd floors for hotel space, according to an application filed with the Land Use Control Board.

“More people are choosing Memphis as other cities have gotten more expensive,” said Mark Fogelman, president of Fogelman Properties.

The $500 million to $700 million Mid-City Memphis development will include a 260,000-square-foot hotel as well as office space, multifamily housing, age-restricted housing, townhouses, retail space and a 500,000-square-foot parking garage.

An expert panel will talk about the area’s development projects during the Developing Memphis Seminar next week. 

The partnership means B.R. Distilling will grow from 30,000 square feet to 100,000 square feet at its 802 Royal Ave. location, the site of the former Pepsi bottling plant.

The developer expects 18 months of architectural work before breaking ground. The renovated building could also include up to 260 multifamily units and hotel space. 

The Economic Development and Growth Engine of Memphis & Shelby County approved two amended tax incentive plans for LaSaint Logistics and Medtronic Logistics with partner CEVA Logistics. 

The development team behind Union Station intends to move forward with demolition of the existing building and two garages on the property. 

The event space is available for use, but finishing touches — including an air wall, artwork and drapery — will be added by Oct. 1.

The Collection at Getwell Farms will be a mixed-use development to the Getwell Road corridor in Hernando, providing housing and retail to the area.

The development will be called Mid-City Memphis, referring to the site’s location at the “geographic and population center” of the city, according to the letter of intent filed. 

Lakeland officials continue to work on redesigning the area around Interstate 40 and Canada Road and have voted to condemn the motel north of the interchange.

The development project would add 150 new hotel rooms Downtown and provide on-site parking at a nearby facility.
