After funding delays and worries that a proposed science, technology, engineering and mathematic lab for Whitehaven High would never happen, officials held a second ceremonial groundbreaking for the $9 million project.

The format remains the same. Each team in the 13-team AAC will still play 18 conference games.

Extension or not, Santi Aldama and Brandon Clarke both could be crucial for the Grizzlies, especially early this season. 

The much-talked-about Southwest Memphis greywater facility, which could save billions of gallons of freshwater a year, is a few steps closer to reality. 

Now seems like a good time to underscore the importance of basketball for Memphis in the future of any realignment discussions — and to emphasize that the current situation for Tigers basketball is unsustainable.
