Collierville's Board of Mayor and Aldermen unanimously approved its budget Monday. The town expects COVID-19 to negatively impact revenues.

Monday was the first day to pull petitions for Nov. 3 elections. In Germantown four people said they plan to run for alderman or the board of education. In Collierville, the mayor and two aldermen are seeking re-election.

Germantown's Board of Education is renewing a new four-year contract for Superintendent Jason Manuel. His current contract does not expire until June 2022.

Anderson Kreis is proof that one person can make a huge impact. The 12-year-0ld from Arlington recently finished his third annual food drive to benefit the Arlington Little Free Pantry, raising more than $2,500 in food and cash donations in a week.

A bid by the developer of Lakeland Commons to add more than 100 apartments to the project will go to the city’s Board of Commissioners without a recommendation from planners after they failed to reach a consensus on the request.

The Lakeland Board of Commissioners approved on second and final reading Thursday night, June 11, a $78.7 million annual budget and $1.24 property tax rate for the fiscal year beginning July 1.

Two events were held in Collierville Saturday. One was a protest outside a restaurant. The other was an informational rally at a local park.

Germantown has several financial challenges it is facing in its budget in light of the coronavirus pandemic. The board approved its $58.7 million operating budget Thursday evening.

A small group of protesters led by Darin Abston of the Memphis People Coalition started at Shelby Farms on Tuesday night and eventually blocked lanes of Germantown Parkway.

The board also decides to cancel the town’s annual Star-Spangled Spectacular that was slated for June 27.

Germantown is opening The Grove at GPAC outdoor entertainment venue, but for now COVID-19 requirements limit the experience to small groups at the new venue. 

Germantown is following Memphis, implementing a curfew from 10 p.m. Monday until the predawn hours of Tuesday morning.

The Atlanta-based company’s cameras are now used in 38 states and more than 600 cities.
