When FedEx St. Jude Championship month arrives, the scramble begins. For golfers and companies, there is a dash to rent houses in the Southwind neighborhood in August. 

The FedEx St. Jude Championship, the first round of the FedEx Cup playoffs, begins Thursday at TPC Southwind.

National Weather Service forecasts a slight chance of rain.

The top three golfers in the world rankings — No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, No. 2 Xander Schauffele and No. 3 Rory McIlroy — will be in playing in Wednesday’s pro-am at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.

The top 70 PGA tour golfers will start playing Thursday at TPC Southwind in the first event of the FedEx Cup playoffs.

The “Hush Y’all” paddles are hallmarks of the FedEx St. Jude Championship. But this year No. 14 will be a center of not-so-quiet activities for the golf tournament, including unique viewing areas, giveaways, beverage sales and more. 

The Memphis native decided not to play professional golf after assembling a brilliant amateur career, including an NCAA individual title and two team national championships at Stanford. 

As preparation for next week’s FedEx St. Jude Championship nears its conclusion, tournament executive director Joe Tomek is keeping an eye on this week’s tournament in North Carolina.

He directed the FedEx St. Jude Classic golf tournament for 13 years, starting in 1986 overseeing its move from Colonial Country Club to TPC Southwind. In 2000, St. Jude made him its first director of sports marketing, hoping to reinvigorate the flagging marathon. He died Aug. 5 at age 76.

University of Memphis fans who come to the FedEx St. Jude Championship next week will have the chance to meet a few Tigers basketball players.

Penny Hardaway and Luke Kennard are a couple of the 23 participants in the annual golf tournament at Spring Creek Ranch.

Lucas Glover admittedly has some work to do to guarantee himself a return trip to Memphis for this year’s event.

When a workout nut and a golf addict got together in Memphis, they created one of the city’s biggest fundraisers for youth golf in the city. 

“On behalf of everyone at ALSAC and St. Jude, I’m grateful to Memphis for once again sharing its soul with the world during the FedEx St. Jude Championship.”

“When you work hard, you never know when it can turn around,” Glover said Sunday after his win at TPC Southwind.

For the second consecutive year, the FedEx St. Jude Championship went to a playoff on Sunday, Aug. 13, to decide the winner of the first event of the FedEx Cup playoffs.

The veteran golfer may not have packed extra clothes for the FedEx St. Jude Classic, but theMemphis course has suited him splendidly through 54 holes.

Forty-six years ago Al Geiberger shot 59 in the Danny Thomas Memphis Classic and became the first pro to post a score that low in a PGA-sanctioned tournament. Justin Rose didn’t match 59 Saturday, but he did tie the TPC Southwind record.
