The field continues to take shape for next month’s first event in the FedEx Cup playoffs.

After undergoing back surgery in April, the 26-year-old is looking forward to getting back on the course and seeing what changes are in store for his sport.

The new venue is “giving people a taste of what we know is incredible Southern hospitality and culture through the lens of the golf tournament.”

PGA/LIV merger is likely to bring changes to the golf world, but executive director of Memphis golf event says his priority is another strong tournament in August.

In 2003, a golfer from Memphis used a 7-iron to seal the deal and win a major at Oak Hill Country Club.

“I couldn’t dream of anything better,” said the winner’s performance coach Josh Gregory of Memphis. “This is home. This will always be home. To see him win at home, you couldn’t write a better script.”

This season, he’s won the most money of any player in the history of the PGA Tour without actually winning a tournament. Now he has that tournament title, along with a lead in the FedEx Cup standings.

The Californian leads at 13-under, but 23 others are within five strokes.

Here are Saturday’s third-round scores from the FedEx St. Jude Championship, along with Sunday’s pairings for the final round at TPC Southwind.

The third round will get underway at 7:15 a.m. Saturday at TPC Southwind. The final group of J.J. Spaun and Sepp Straka will tee off at 1 p.m.

J.J. Spaun is at 11-under heading into the weekend. He’ll take a 1-stroke lead into Saturday’s third round of the FedEx Cup playoff opener over Sepp Straka and Troy Merritt.

Volunteers at the FedEx St. Jude Championship will be given purple ribbons to celebrate the life of Will Drennan — a former volunteer who died saving a child from a sudden flood Tuesday night. 

Conditions were ideal for low scoring on Thursday and the field at the FedEx St. Jude Championship took full advantage.
