Coronavirus: New case increase lowest in a week

The Shelby County Health Department reported 120 new cases from 2,131 tests. Three new deaths bring the total to 445.

From Sept. 5 to Sept 19, the Health Department reported an average of 148 new coronavirus cases each day. That’s similar to the 146 new-case average from the preceding 14-day period.
Overall, the Shelby County Health Department reports 30,135 coronavirus cases, 442 deaths, and 28,111 cases classified as inactive/recovered. The active case count stands at 1,582, a slight increase from the 1,567 reported Friday.
The Health Department also reported five new related deaths on Thursday.

About 26% of area ICU patients were either COVID-positive or suspected of having the virus.
The seven-day moving average for new cases is hovering around 110 a day.

In addition to the 146 new cases, the Shelby County Health Department reported no new related deaths on Tuesday.
From Aug. 29 to Saturday, Sept. 12, the Shelby County Health Department reported an average of 116 new cases and 1,173 test results a day with a 9.9% positivity rate.
The health department has reported a total of 28,890 coronavirus cases from 269,693 tests performed in Shelby County, yielding a 10.7% positivity rate.
Coronavirus data for public school systems is readily available, but that’s not the case with private schools.
The county reported 161 new coronavirus tests on Labor Day. Out of those tests, 125 were positive.

The Health Department also reported three new related deaths on Friday, Sept. 4.
Those 86 new cases came from 1,278 tests, giving the day a positivity rate of 6.7%.
In addition to the 82 new cases, the Health Department also reported one new related death.
Plus, Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris on Tuesday announced $5,000 in funding for Senior Tech Connect, a new county program that will connect long-term care facilities with technology so residents can see their families.
About 24% of area ICU patients were either COVID-positive or suspected of having the virus and about 7% of acute care patients were either COVID-positive or suspected of having the virus.
