A business owner on Collierville’s Town Square and a Planning Commission member with more than a decade of experience were appointed as the next two aldermen in Collierville.

Maureen Fraser will chair her first meeting as Collierville mayor Monday. Ahead of that, she shared some lesser known facts about her life.

Two positions are open due to the town’s resign-to-run rule. Both Maureen Fraser and Billy Patton, former aldermen, ran for mayor last November.

Collierville wants to rezone the E-Plex landfill, sometimes called Mount Trashmore. The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation is working to close the landfill.

The new location not only boasts a bigger rehab space, astro turf and more accessible exam rooms but also convenience.

Collierville had 39 residents apply for its two open alderman positions. According to the town charter, the town has less than two weeks to select its new alderman.

After being diagnosed with an aggressive form of throat cancer, Mike O’Neill decided to put his life story on paper and published a book. 

The state is capping the E-Plex landfill south of Wolf River Boulevard, west of Bray Station Road and north of Frank Road. Officials want to make sure its existence as a landfill has ended for good.

“We don’t want to prevent people from reasonable use of their property,” Collierville’s town administrator said after a noisy neighborhood event Saturday. “It’s when it affects other people’s enjoyable use of their property — that’s where we draw the line.”

University of Tennessee drum major Christian Carroll, of Collierville, is only the third Black drum major in the school’s history.

There have only been three Black drum majors in the more than 150 years since the University of Tennessee marching band was founded.

Maureen Fraser has lived in many places across the country. But when she finally landed in Collierville, she spent years investing in the suburb. Now, as the new mayor, she’s ready to help it flourish. 

Alderman-elect Nick Robbins will take his oath next week. In the runoff this past Tuesday, there were 2,593 ballots cast.

Collierville will begin accepting applications on Thursday. The appointed aldermen are scheduled to take their oath before a January meeting.

Mayor Stan Joyner chaired his final Collierville meeting Monday evening. The agenda was fairly routine, but the town took the opportunity to honor his dedication to the suburb.

Fewer than 4.2% of registered voters in Collierville took the opportunity to cast early ballots in the suburb’s runoff election. The last chance to vote in the Alderman Position 3 race is Tuesday.

Mayor Stan Joyner will retire next month at age 74. He’s called Collierville home for all but four years and spent half his life serving the suburb.

Two aldermen were celebrated for their years dedicated to Collierville. Their final meeting as part of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen is scheduled for Dec. 9.

Retiring Mayor Stan Joyner was surprised Thursday night as he was informed his former school building will be named in his honor. 

The Shelby County Election Commission decided Thursday that a Collierville runoff will be held Dec. 10 to fill the office held by Alderman John Worley.

At a Thursday, Nov. 14, hearing in Collierville, Lydia McGuinn, a clinic manager for at the time of the shooting, spoke on the stand.
